Who wants to have low energy, pile on weight and struggle to lose that weight while putting themselves at risk of developing some serious health problems in the long run?
Nobody. Well, not sane people anyway…
But these are just a few of a host of things that catch up to you if you don’t t take charge of your health.
And no one wants or asks for these things. These things happen because of 3 reasons:
1.We fail to plan
2.We don’t follow through on our plans
3.We don’t even make a conscious decision to take charge of our health in the first place
And many times it’s not our fault. It’s just we don’t know how to stick to our health goals. We’ve tried before and fell flat on our faces or we don’t have the time to do what’s necessary to achieve them. After all, leading a healthy lifestyle requires SO much time, right?
Leading a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming and it certainly doesn’t have to take over your whole life.
All that’s required is a mindset shift and a simple plan.
The mindset shift starts with taking responsibility for yourself and realising that you and you alone is the only one in charge for your health.
It’s acknowledging that not only are you capable of experiencing amazing, vibrant health but understanding that it is your birthright to have great health and vitality.
So no matter how you feel, how much you weigh or whatever issues you’re faced with right now, you can overcome them all in time, if you choose to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Below are my top 7 steps to follow to ensure you have success on your health journey:
1. Work Out Your Why
The first thing to do is to work out exactly why you want to lead a healthier lifestyle and achieve the goal you’ve set for yourself.
It could be because you’re getting married in the near future and you want to get in best shape for your big day.
Or maybe you’ve just had a baby and you want to lose the baby weight and get healthier.
Or you’re sick and tired of dieting and you just want to lose the extra weight once and for all, so you can be more confident in your body and look and feel your best.
It doesn’t really matter what the reason is. What matters is that you identify your why and acknowledge it.
Next, get a piece of paper and write the reasons to your why down. Then go on to write how you would feel once you have accomplished your goal.
Ask yourself questions such as :
How important is it for me to achieve my health goal?
What would it mean to me when I DO achieve them?
And how will that improve the quality of my life?
The purpose of doing this process is to fire up your motivation and gives you a strong desire to pursue that goal.
2. Take Action Today
After you’ve accomplished step 1, now it’s time to take action to make your goal happen.A great place to start is by getting rid of all the unhealthy and junk food in the house and stock your kitchen with healthy foods instead.
You can also get a journal to record your health journey. Get a gym membership or start going for walks or jogs outdoors. Start now! Do whatever it takes to get the ball rolling. Don’t wait for the perfect time to take action. The sooner you take action towards your goals, the closer you are to achieving them.
Procrastination and waiting for the “right time” kills your motivation and delays your results at best, and make you never achieve your goals at worst, so take action today!
3. Join a Supportive Community
When you set out to accomplish your health goal, it’s important to join a supportive community, especially at the beginning stage. This can be family members or friends who have similar goals to you and even like-minded people online.
There’s varies Facebook health and fitness groups you can join and interact with like-minded individuals. Surrounding yourself with people who are interested in the same lifestyle as you and connecting with them will help you stay on track and give you the support and motivation you need to achieve your goals.
4. Aim For Progress Not Perfection
Aiming for progress sets you up to win. Aiming for perfection sets you up to lose. It’s really that simple.
Remember a healthy lifestyle is a part of your life. It’s unrealistic to expect yourself to be perfect all of the time. There may be times you fail to stick to your health goals for whatever reasons and that’s Ok.
When this happens, don’t beat yourself up about it or worse give up altogether and return to your old ways. Instead learn from it, acknowledge your progress and keep going.
5. Have Fun
Your whole attitude towards leading a healthy lifestyle and setting out to achieve your health goals is very important and determines whether you will succeed or fail. That’s why it’s important to have fun along the way and approach the whole thing with a positive mindset.
Perceive the journey to achieving your health goal as a newfound hobby that you love and enjoy. After all, making the decision to take charge of your health is such an important choice that will add so much value in all aspects of your life. So enjoy it and have fun.
6. Form Positive Habits
Habits are so powerful. The minute the actions you’re doing to better your health become habits and you’re living a healthy lifestyle, it will be hard for you go back to your old ways.
So how do you form habits at the early stages of your healthy journey?
The answer is you do it by persevering, not giving up and sticking to your plan. Before long, you will start to see results, which in return will motivate you to keep up the good work. This brings me to the last step…
7. Drink a Green Smoothie Everyday
One of the things I do as part of leading a healthy lifestyle is replacing one of my meals (usually breakfast) with a green smoothie.
They’re quick and easy to make and are cleansing, nourishing and full of goodness. Drinking them every day is hands-down the quickest and easiest way to improve your overall health.
