I have a confession to make…
I NEVER ate kale before I started drinking green smoothies! In fact, I hadn’t even heard of it!
And I find that funny and weird at the same time because nowadays I love kale and its one of my staple veggies. So to think that once upon time kale didn’t exist in my life is almost unimaginable.
By the way, if you haven’t tried kale yet let me just warn you that it tastes quite bitter, especially when you eat it raw.
And obviously I don’t like bitter food but kale is an exception because most of the time when I eat it, it’s in green smoothies. So I can’t taste it because the fruit masks its bitterness.
And that’s one of the great things about green smoothies…They make it super easy to get leafy greens (which are one of the top healthiest foods on the planet) in your diet, including the bitter greens that you would never dream of eating even if somebody paid you!
I’m kidding! Kale isn’t that bad…Really!
By the way, I know the colour of this smoothie is red and not green but it still counts as a green smoothie because green smoothies are called green smoothies because they contain leafy greens not necessary because they’re green.
They can range from brown to bright lime green in colour just depending on the ingredients you use.
Also, some of the worst looking green smoothies end up being the best tasting, so never judge a green smoothie by its colour. I’ve made loads of green smoothies in the past that came out looking like mud (not kidding) but they tasted amazing.
Anyway, back to the Berry Kale Green Smoothie…
This smoothie is loaded with vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants and it boosts up the immune system, aids in detoxifying the body, improves eye health, reduces inflammation in the body and aids weight loss as well as improve the health of hair, skin and nails.
Need I say more?!
Berry Kale Green Smoothie
1 cup of dino kale
1 cup of frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup of strawberries (fresh or frozen)
Juice from 1 Lemon
Tablespoon of chia seeds
1 cup of water
- In your high speed blender add the kale, chia seeds and water and blend until smooth
- Next add the strawberries and the mixed berries and blend again
- Then add the bananas, squeeze the juice of the lemon and blend everything until smooth
Serve and enjoy!
